She might have been the victim of a perverted NUS male student, but Monica Baey, who was filmed showering at a NUS hostel toilet by fellow NUS student Nicholas Lim, and whose case had been the talk of town for the past two weeks, have called on the online bullying against her perpetrator to stop.
Ms Baey noted that since her story went viral two weeks ago, she had received overwhelming support from the online community, and changes are also afoot at NUS because of her case and how it has spotlight the shortcoming of NUS' actions. She noted that she was glad that change had finally came, although it has come at the expense of her making public her situation, and that of her perpetrator. And she has now called on the same online support to stop harassing and bullying the peeping tom, Nicholas Lim, as she said he does not deserve to be bullied online for what he had done.
She did add that she thought Lim had gotten away lightly, but it is now up to the NUS and its review committee to handle this issue, and not her or other Internet users. Such a gracious and courageous young lady, willing to step up and laid bare herself as a victim of sexual misconduct, and calling on others to stop the bullying of her perpetrator and let the authorities who had let her down deal with the case once again. We should applaud her.
